Bio-identical Hormone Therapy

Bio-identical hormones refer to hormones that are biologically similar or identical to what the human body makes. All bio-identical hormones are derived from wild yams or soy. Unfortunately, the human body cannot convert the compounds in wild yams or soy very well on its own to produce hormones.

Bio-identical hormones are produced in a lab but the end result is a naturally derived biologically similar hormone that the body processes, utilizes, and metabolizes just like it would endogenous hormones produced by your own body.

There are a variety of different ways to administer bio-identical hormones including pellet therapy, topical creams and patches, nasal spray, and oral administration. The route of administration greatly influences the desired effects, how long the hormones are available to the body, and the type of follow up testing that should be done to monitor levels.
